Meet, School Record Highlights First Day of T&F Championships
A record performance in the hurdles highlights the first day of the Centennial Conference Championships for the Muhlenberg track and field teams.
Sophomore Maya Richwine posted the fastest qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.81. That broke not only the school record of 8.85, which was set in 2013, but also the meet record of 8.83, which had stood since 2016. There were only 15 faster times in Division III this season heading into the weekend's meets.
Junior Niki Matthews also qualified for the final in the hurdles, matching her person best of 9.71.
The Mules won two medals on the first day of the meet, with sophomore Maxwell Broadbent earning silver in the triple jump with a personal-best of 46-4. He was one of four Muhlenberg placewinners in the triple jump, with freshman Sean McNeil (pictured above) coming in fourth for the men, and junior Shanice Williams and Matthews finishing 5-6, respectively, for the women.
The men's 4x200 relay team of sophomores Sultan Almosbeh, Bryce Rhodeman, and Christopher Short and freshman James Williams earned a bronze. Their time of 1:32.50 is the third-fastest in program history; Rhodeman and Short were on the quarter that ran the second-fastest last year.
Seniors Ellen Maguire, Erin Jackson and Hadley DeVarennes (pictured above left) each placed in two relays. Senior Erica Borbi placed in the weight throw for the third straight year.
