Quarrie Slam Highlights Baseball Game

Despite a first-inning grand slam, the Muhlenberg baseball team fell at home to Haverford, 13-6.

The Fords plated three runs in the top of the first, but in the bottom of the inning, the Mules loaded the bases with nobody out on singles by seniors Ryan Riccio and Nick Whelan and a hit batter. One out later, freshman Marc Quarrie lofted a ball that carried over the fence in left-center to put Muhlenberg in the lead.

It was the first grand slam that accounted for the Mules' first four runs of the game since 2010 and the first to turn a three-run deficit into a lead since 2016. Quarrie (pictured above) is the first Muhlenberg freshman to hit a grand slam since 2017.

The Mules added single runs in the second and fourth, both driven in by junior Brendan Hughes on a sacrifice fly and a triple, but were shut down for the rest of the game. Haverford went ahead with three runs in the fourth and pulled away in the late innings.

Riccio went 3-for-5, and sophomore Mason Mehling had a pair of singles.
