House, Relay Win Repeat Golds

The Muhlenberg men's team wrapped up the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with two repeat gold medalists and a major award winner.

The Muhlenberg men's team wrapped up the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with two repeat gold medalists and a major award winner.

The Mules placed third, their best finish since 2011, with 117.5 points, their most in a complete CC meet since the 2010 team scored 118.

The women scored 40 points, nine more than they did last year and their most in a complete CC meet since 2017.

Graduate student John Reichenbach was named Most Outstanding Performer for field events after winning two gold medals, in the high jump and long jump, on the second day of the meet. He is the first Mule to win top field honors at the CC outdoor meet since 2013.

Senior Noel House captured the javelin for the third straight year, winning by more than 12 feet with a big throw of 201-8 on his second attempt. He is only the third athlete in CC history to break 200 feet at the championship meet; all three are from Muhlenberg. House is the fifth three-time javelin champion – the third Mule - in CC history. Muhlenberg has won the javelin at the CC meet nine times in the last 12 seasons.

The Mules' other "repeat" winner was the 4x100-meter relay team. Muhlenberg won the event last year, but only one of the four runners on that squad was back this year. That was junior Joshua Castro, who ran the anchor leg. The rest of the team was freshmen Isaac Schaffer-Neitz, Bryce Rhodeman and Christopher Short. The quartet set a school and meet record with a time of 41.90 seconds.

Castro added a bronze medal in the 4x400 to cap a weekend in which he placed in the top five in five events, running 1900 meters in sprints in two days.

Freshman David Seel, who won a silver medal with the 4x800 team on Saturday, added a second silver in the open 800.

Freshman Maya Richwine contributed to points in three events on the final day of the meet, placing fifth in both hurdles events and anchoring the 4x100 team that came in sixth.

The highest place for a member of the women's team on the third day of the meet came from sophomore Shira Gamson, who finished fourth in the triple jump, a two-place improvement from the 2023 outdoor meet.
