The Muhlenberg men's basketball team made 13 three-pointers in defeating Penn College, 89-83, for its first win of the season.

Playing at home for the first time, the Mules (1-2) opened up a nine-point lead at halftime and never let the Wildcats get closer than five points in the second half.

Senior Giovanni Rubino led five Muhlenberg players in double figures with 23 points to go along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds. Senior Charlie Gillikin added 19 points, scoring 16 of them in the first half on perfect 6-of-6 shooting from the field, including four threes.

The back-and-forth first nine minutes of the game featured eight lead changes. The score was tied 17-all before Gillikin made a pair of threes, both assisted by sophomore Elias Sherman-Murphy, to kick off a 14-2 run that gave the Mules the lead for good. Senior Luke Gordos and sophomore Gavin D'Iorio also knocked down threes in the run.

After Wildcats (1-2) cut the margin to five midway through the second half, consecutive threes by sophomore Liam Gorman and D'Iorio, both assisted by freshman Drew Buck, one off an offensive rebound, extended the lead back to double digits.

Sophomore Peter Stanton-Shepherd finished with 13 points and 6 rebounds, while D'Iorio netted 11 points to tie the career high he set four days ago. Gorman scored 10 points.

Sherman-Murphy (pictured above) played a career-high 27 minutes and recorded 6 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
