The Muhlenberg baseball team came back from four runs down to take a late lead but dropped its home opener to Neumann, 8-7.

The Mules (4-9) trailed 6-2 in the middle of the fourth before scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning to close to within a run.

The score remained 6-5 until the bottom of the seventh, when senior Ryan Friesen drew a leadoff walk and crossed to third on an opposite-field double by freshman Marc Quarrie - his third hit of the game. One out later, sophomore Mason Mehling dropped a single into left-center to bring in the tying and go-ahead run.

Neumann (8-4) spoiled the comeback by plating two runs in the top of the ninth. Muhlenberg loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth but could not push a run home.

The Mules' comeback was made possible by the stellar relief pitching of Esteban Salazar. The freshman southpaw (pictured above) tossed four scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 4.
