Track Teams Start Outdoor Season with Bang
The Muhlenberg track and field teams took a partial squad to Lafayette, and their outdoor season could not have gotten off to a better start.
The Mules combined for two school records, seven regional qualifiers, 11 all-time top 10 performances and 18 Centennial Conference qualifiers.
Leading the way was graduate student John Reichenbach, who crushed a 108-year-old school record in the long jump, jumping 23-11. The previous record, set in 1916 by Ben Hubbard and tied in 2005 by John Brodowski, was 22-7. Reichenbach's mark, on his first attempt as a Mule, ranks third on the CC all-time performance list, just six inches short of the record, and he won the long jump by more than a foot. Reichenbach also came in third in the high jump.
Muhlenberg's other first-place finisher was senior Noel House, who won the javelin by more than a foot at 190-11.
Junior Joshua Castro (pictured above right) had an impressive meet, placing in the three events and entering the Muhlenberg all-time top 10 list in the 100, 200 and 4x100.
Senior Faith Fezenko broke her own school record in the hammer, throwing 151-5, and junior Erica Borbi (pictured above left) set a new personal best in the hammer by more than 6 feet.
Freshman Maya Richwine, in her first outdoor meet as a Mule, became just the third athlete in program history (and the first in 11 years) to break 15 seconds in the hurdles.
