Six Named All-CC in Men's Soccer
Six Muhlenberg players were recognized on the All-Centennial Conference men's soccer team.
Freshman Sam Roberts took one of the major honors, earning rookie of the year. He joined seniors Taylan Akdag and Chris Richards on the first team. Senior Caleb Herring, junior Kevin Adams and sophomore Ben Mulford all received honorable mention.
The six All-CC selections were the most for the Mules since 2010.
Roberts is the second Mule to be named rookie of the year, following in the footsteps of Richards in 2019. Roberts and Richards are the only two Muhlenberg players ever to be selected to the All-CC first team as freshmen.
Roberts started all 19 games at center back in his first collegiate season and was a key part of a defense that allowed only 14 goals, the Mules' fewest in a full season since 2014. He also contributed to the offense with 3 assists.
Akdag repeated on the first team after leading Muhlenberg and ranking fifth in the CC with 20 points on 7 goals and 6 assists. The big forward led the Mules with 4 goals in CC games and added a goal and an assist in a CC semifinal win against Franklin & Marshall.
Akdag finished his career with 72 points on 23 goals and 26 assists. He ranks fourth in program history in career assists and is the only Mule since 2000 to record at least 20 assists.
Richards became just the second Muhlenberg player to land on the All-CC team four times. He was a first-team selection in 2019 and 2022 and received honorable mention in 2021. Richards, who recorded 10 points in 2023, also is the fourth Mule named to the All-CC first team three times.
Richards ended his career ninth on the program's all-time scoring list with 83 points on 34 goals and 15 assists.
Herring was a first-time All-CC honoree. The speedy wing player assisted on 3 goals this season, including one in a CC first-round playoff win vs. Dickinson.
Adams was honored as a midfielder after earning All-CC laurels as a back last year. The co-captain registered a goal and an assist.
Mulford started every game in goal and ranks second in the CC in goals-against average (0.75) and third in save percentage (.774). He allowed more than one goal only twice in 19 games.
Muhlenberg compiled a 13-4-2 record in 2023, finishing third in the CC in the regular season and advancing to the CC championship game for the second year in a row.
