Men's Lacrosse Rolls to Second Straight
The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team evened its Centennial Conference record with a 17-6 home win against McDaniel.
Coming on the heels of a 17-10 win at Washington College a week ago, it was the first time the Mules (5-7, 2-2) scored at least 17 goals in back-to-back Centennial Conference games.
Freshman Jack Bill contributed to almost half of the scores, notching 8 points - one off the school record - on 6 goals and 2 assists. Bill scored in bunches, putting in Muhlenberg first three goals of the game and then scoring three straight Mule goals again later in the game.
Senior Wyatt Malia, junior Spencer Hallagan and freshman Daniel Friedel netted a pair of goals apiece. Malia added a career-high 4 assists, the most by a Muhlenberg player this season, and Hallagan recorded his first career multiple-goal game.
Freshman Mark Ruggiero scored his first career goal, junior Brendan Lavarra scored his first career point on an assist to fellow longstick Luke Schwartzberg in transition, and junior Nolan DiSora (pictured above) had a pair of assists.
The Mule defense was outstanding, not allowing the Green Terror (7-5, 0-4) to score an even-strength goal in their set offense until midway through the third quarter. McDaniel committed 12 turnovers and was only 8-of-15 on clears in the first half.
Muhlenberg dominated on faceoffs, with junior Griffin Minuto and sophomore Michael Drago combining to go 22-of-27. Drago was 11-of-14 and picked up 7 ground balls.
Despite a huge advantage in shots, the Mules found themselves in a 1-1 tie before scoring three goals in the final 3:04 of the first quarter. Goals by Ruggiero and Schwartzberg 50 seconds apart triggered a 4-0 start to the second quarter to Muhlenberg that resulted in an 8-1 lead, and the Mules held a comfortable advantage the rest of the game.
