Three to Captain Tennis Teams

The Muhlenberg tennis teams named three captains for the 2023-24 season.

The Muhlenberg tennis teams named three captains for the 2023-24 season.

Sophomore Gabriel Tamarkin and senior Josh Benson were selected as co-captains of the men's team, while senior Sophia Framm was picked to lead the women's squad.

Tamarkin played in the top half of the Mules' lineup after joining the team last spring, notching an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles in the season finale vs. McDaniel. He went 3-0 in the fall, dropping a total of only three games in singles wins vs. DeSales and Penn State Berks and a doubles victory vs. DeSales.

Benson is serving as a team captain for the second straight year. A two-time member of the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll and 2022 selection to the CC Sportsmanship Team, he is tied for the lead among active Mule players with nine career wins, including three at No. 5 singles last spring and one at No. 6 singles against Albright in the fall.

Framm also is in her second year as a team captain. The lone fourth-year player on the team, she leads all active Muhlenberg players with 24 career wins, 12 each in singles and doubles. Framm has been named to the CC Academic Honor Roll and CC Sportsmanship Team twice each and played No. 1 singles for the first time in her career at Cedar Crest in the fall, picking up a 6-1, 6-2 win.

Both Mule teams are slated to open their spring season at home against Johns Hopkins on Saturday, February 17. The men went 4-0 in the fall, while the women were 2-3.
