The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team completed a highly successful trip to Colorado with a 12-10 win against Cortland.

The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team completed a highly successful trip to Colorado with a 12-10 win against Cortland.

Three days after defeating Colorado College in overtime, the Mules (3-5) won another thrilling game against a team receiving votes in the USILA Division III poll.

Muhlenberg scored just 1:10 into the game and led for the rest of the first half. It was 7-5 after junior Tyler Kitchen scored 36 seconds into the second half, but the Red Dragons (3-2) responded with a 5-0 run in a little more than 10 minutes to open up a 10-7 advantage.

Instead of taking control of the game, however, Cortland was stopped cold by the Mule defense. Muhlenberg netted the last five goals of the game, holding the Red Dragons scoreless for the last 19 minutes.

The first career goal by junior Spencer Hallagan, on an extra-man opportunity, brought the Mules to within 10-8 with 1:23 left in the third.

Kitchen netted his second goal of the game off the fourth-quarter faceoff, and the score remained 10-9 for more than seven minutes until senior Jack Taub tied it midway through the final period.

Junior Andrew Sellitto, who scored the tying goal in the fourth quarter against Colorado College, put Muhlenberg ahead with 6:09 remaining, and senior Wyatt Malia, who assisted on a goal in each of the first three quarters, put the icing on the cake by scoring one of his own with 1:58 to play.

The Mules had a 14-5 advantage in shots in the fourth quarter, and senior Stephen Krug made three of his 11 saves in the final period.

Junior Griffin Minuto had another big game on faceoffs, winning 17 (of 26) for the second straight game.

Sophomore Luke Schwartzberg picked up 4 ground balls and senior Matthew Regan 3 to lead Muhlenberg to a big 31-18 edge in ground balls.
