The Muhlenberg men's wrestling team finished second at the season-opening Tonee Ellis Memorial Tournament at Alvernia.

Nine Mules placed in the top four in their brackets, including senior Fletcher Goodman and junior Ryan Fairchild, who both reached the 184-pound final and did not wrestle each other. Senior Brandon Bowles stormed to the 157-pound title, while sophomore Andrew Loniewski (141) and freshman Noah Schlofer (197) reached the championship final at their weights.

Seniors Brian McCaw (125) and Frank DiEsso (133) placed third, and freshman Joey Lenio (141) and senior Paul Parise (197) came in fourth.

Bowles was quite impressive in his return to action after missing the entire 2023-24 season due to injury. The two-time national qualifier won his four bouts on a major decision, two technical falls and a pin. 

Fairchild reached the final with a major decision and his 22nd career pin, while Goodman (pictured above) recorded a dramatic win in the semifinals, scoring a takedown and four-point near-fall in the final 20 seconds for a 10-5 decision.

Loniewski went 3-1, including a 4-1 decision against a regionally ranked opponent from Western New England. Schlofer won three of four bouts in his collegiate debut.

Lenio had an impressive start to his collegiate career, recording two pins and a major decision in his first three bouts.
