Women's Lacrosse Narrowly Misses Upset
For the second time in as many home games, the Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team led a nationally ranked opponent at halftime before falling.
The Mules (8-2) had a five-goal lead against 25th-ranked Haverford in the third quarter, but the Fords netted eight of the last nine goals to pull out a 13-11 victory.
Muhlenberg trailed 3-1 about eight minutes into the game before a free-position goal by freshman Emma Youngling (pictured above) ignited the offense. Back-to-back goals by senior Nicole Steiner and one by junior Jillian Kubikowski gave the Mules a 5-3 lead.
Haverford (6-3, 2-0) scored the next goal, but Muhlenberg netted four in a row again, including two by sophomore Ava Milia, to open up a 9-4 advantage in the first minute of the second half.
A goal by sophomore Lauren Cherven made it 10-5 with 12:20 left in the third, but the Mules scored only one more goal the rest of the game.
Kubikowski finished with a career-high 7 points on 4 goals and 3 assists. Steiner scored three times for her ninth hat trick in 10 games this season.
Junior Emily Vaughan and sophomore Abba Diglio each controlled 6 draws and combined for 6 caused turnovers.
