Extra Innings Again for Baseball

The Muhlenberg baseball team played extra innings for the second straight day but was on the wrong side of this walkoff, falling 7-6 in 11 innings at King's.

The Muhlenberg baseball team played extra innings for the second straight day but was on the wrong side of this walkoff, falling 7-6 in 11 innings at King's.

Held without a hit for the first five innings, the Mules rallied from a 3-0 deficit to force extra innings. An RBI single by senior Ryan Riccio, a sacrifice fly by junior Brendan Hughes and a two-out, two-run double by freshman Marc Quarrie brought in four runs in the top of the seventh, giving Muhlenberg a 5-3 lead.

The Monarchs responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame to go back in front at 6-5.

Senior Nick Belli led off the ninth with a single and was sacrficed to second, coming around to score the tying run on a double by senior Nick Whelan.

The Mules did not get a hit in either the 10th or 11th innings, and King's won the game on two walks and a single in the bottom of the 11th.

Whelan and Belli (pictured above) had two hits apiece for Muhlenberg. 

Freshman Daniel Beagle started the game on the mound and tossed three scoreless innings.
