Men's Lacrosse Wins Regular-Season Finale
The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team built a big early lead and went on to a 14-9 win against Stockton in its regular-season finale.
The Mules (10-7), who reached double digits in victories for the fifth time in program history – four of those times in the last seven years – will travel to Dickinson for a Centennial Conference semifinal game next Thursday.
Muhlenberg rolled up a 17-5 advantage in shots in the first quarter, taking a 7-1 lead at the quarter break when freshman Daniel Friedel put in the second of his three goals just before time expired.
Freshman Chase Kusko and Liam Ledwith added goals in the first 5:10 of the second quarter, extending the advantage to 9-1.
The Ospreys (10-7) slowed the Mules down after that and chipped away at the lead. They eventually climbed to within three goals, at 12-9, midway through the fourth quarter before a goal by Ledwith and an empty-netter by Friedel clinched Muhlenberg's seventh straight win.
Senior Stephen Krug had a huge game in goal, making a career-high18 saves, including six in the fourth quarter.
Senior Jack Taub scored a career-high 4 points on 2 goals and 2 assists. Senior Ryan May and junior Andrew Sellitto netted a pair of goals apiece.
Senior Wyatt Malia scored a first-quarter goal for his 150th career point.
Junior Matthew Hochegger picked up 4 ground balls and caused 3 turnovers to lead the defense. Junior Brendan Lavarra tied his career high with 6 ground balls, while longsticks Matthew Regan, Luke Schwartzberg (pictured above), Michael Chimics and Aidan Murphy recorded 3 ground balls apiece.
