Mules Hammer Out Two Golds

The Muhlenberg track and field teams swept the hammer competitions on the first day of the Centennial Conference Championships.

The Muhlenberg track and field teams swept the hammer competitions on the first day of the Centennial Conference Championships.

Seniors Faith Fezenko and Dylan DeMagistris both earned gold medals as Muhlenberg became the first school in CC history to sweep since the hammer was first contested at the meet in 2017. The Mules had never had a gold medalist in the hammer before.

Fezenko, who won a silver medal in the hammer last year, was in second place entering the finals but unleashed a school-record throw of 157-5 on her first attempt in the final round. That put her in first place, and she saved her best for last, extending her lead and school record with a heave of 158-10 on her final throw.

Similarly, DeMagistris already had the gold medal sewn up when he entered the cage for his final throw. His second attempt landed at 180-7, breaking the school record and the meet record, and he added the all-time CC mark with a throw of 186-2 on his final try. DeMagistris, who earned his third career gold (one each in the discus, weight throw and hammer), broke the previous CC record of 182-8.

Junior Erica Borbi earned a point for the women's team by coming in eighth with a personal-best throw of 125-9.
