14 Named All-Conference in Football

Seven repeaters and seven first-time honorees made up the 14 Muhlenberg players recognized on the All-Centennial Conference football team.

Seven repeaters and seven first-time honorees made up the 14 Muhlenberg players recognized on the All-Centennial Conference football team.

The 14 selections have led the Mules to a 9-1 record, a national ranking of No. 17 in the American Football Coaches Association Division III poll, and the program's 19th postseason berth in the last 23 seasons.

Heading the list is junior quarterback Joe Repetti, who was named offensive player of the year. Repetti is the 12th different Mule to be named a CC player of the year, and this is the fourth time in the last seven seasons that the Muhlenberg QB has been named offensive player of the year.

Repetti, a five-time CC player of the week, leads the CC and ranks among the Division III leaders in passing yards (2714), passing touchdowns (37), total touchdowns (45), completion percentage (.688), passing efficiency (185.3) and total offense yards (3262). He is tied for fourth in Division III in total touchdowns and ranks second among active Division III junior quarterbacks in career passing touchdowns.

FIRST-TEAM OFFENSE
Joining Repetti on the All-CC first-team offense were two repeaters from the offensive line, senior left tackle Zach Greenberg and senior right guard Jack Kinerney. Greenberg was a first-team selection in 2021 before missing most of the 2022 season with injury. Kinerney was the Mules' top lineman last year, earning first-team All-CC recognition.

The 10th and 11th Muhlenberg offensive linemen named to the All-CC multiple times, Greenberg and Kinerney are stalwarts on an line that has allowed only eight sacks all season, paving the way for the Mules to average 40.2 points and 451.3 yards per game.

FIRST-TEAM DEFENSE
Senior defensive end Keshon Davila, senior middle linebacker Tyler Ekstrom and senior safety John Lohrer all made the All-CC first team for the first time.

Davila previously earned second-team honors in both 2021 and 2022. He has made 31 tackles on the season, including 5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks, and is a big reason the Mules are allowing an average of only 2.8 yards per rush.

Ekstrom leads Muhlenberg with 75 tackles and leads the CC in tackles per game (8.3). He is fourth on the Mules with 6½ tackles for loss, including a sack, and also has recorded two fumble recoveries, two interceptions and a pair of pass breakups.

Lohrer, who received honorable mention last year, tied a school record with his CC-leading total of 13 pass breakups (tied for eighth in Division III). He also has 44 tackles, including 2 for loss, an interception and a forced fumble.

SECOND-TEAM OFFENSE
Senior wide receiver Christopher Ardito, senior tight end James Nye and junior center Ryan Wreath were named to the second team on offense.

Ardito earned his first career All-CC nod after leading all Muhlenberg wide receivers with 37 receptions. He averages 15.0 yards per catch and has caught three touchdown passes, including two late ones in the Mules' double-overtime win against Franklin & Marshall.

Nye moved up from honorable mention after catching a team-leading 42 passes for 768 yards and 13 touchdowns. The 13 TDs rank second in the CC and are the most by any NCAA player (all four divisions) listed as a tight end.

Wreath also moved up from honorable mention to second team after starting every game at center. The Mules are second in the CC in rushing offense at 170.1 yards per game.

SECOND-TEAM DEFENSE
Graduate student linebacker Tim Higgins, senior cornerback Alex Jr. Batista and senior defensive end Matt Papa are all first-timers on the second-team defense.

Higgins leads the Mules with 5 sacks among his 28 total tackles in his first season as a regular in the defensive rotation. He also has recorded a forced fumble and a pass breakup.

Batista leads Muhlenberg and is tied for the CC lead with 3 interceptions. He also has broken up 5 passes and recorded 29 tackles, including 5 for loss and a sack.

Papa leads the Mules and is tied for seventh in the CC with 9½ tackles for loss among his 22 total stops. One of his tackles forced a fumble.

HONORABLE MENTION
Seniors Timothy Buda and Matthew Giuliano both earned honorable mention.

Buda has caught 30 passes for an average of 13.9 yards per reception and leads Muhlenberg wide receivers with 5 touchdown catches.

Giuliano, a middle linebacker, is the second-leading tackler on the Mules with 56 total stops, including 1½ for loss, to go along with a fumble recovery and an interception.

Muhlenberg's all-conference selections will join the rest of the team in hosting Lebanon Valley in a Centennial-MAC Bowl Series game on Saturday at 12:00. With a win, the Mules would reach double digits in victories for only the sixth time in program history. They have won at least one postseason game each of the five seasons.
