Nye Named to All-America Second Team

Muhlenberg senior tight end James Nye was named to the American Football Coaches Association Division III All-America second team.

Muhlenberg senior tight end James Nye was named to the American Football Coaches Association Division III All-America second team.

Also an All-Centennial Conference second-team selection, Nye led the Mules in every receiving category in 2023, catching 44 passes for 791 yards (an average of 18.0 yards per reception) and 14 touchdowns (one short of the school record). He caught at least one TD pass in nine of the Mules' 11 games and recorded three 100-yard games.

His top game was an 11-catch, 148-effort in a double-overtime win vs. Franklin & Marshall in which he tied the school record for receptions in a game by a tight end. Nye caught two touchdown passes in that game, one on a spectacular one-handed catch and the other to end the game in the second overtime.

Nye is tied for 15th in Division III in touchdown catches, and among players listed as tight ends, no other NCAA football player (all four divisions) has more than 12.

Nye finished his career with 90 receptions for 1,382 yards and 25 touchdowns. The latter number is tied for fourth in program history.

Since 2016, the Mules have had at least one player earn AFCA All-America honors in six of eight seasons. Nye is the third Muhlenberg tight end to receive All-America recognition in the last 10 seasons.

Nye also was named to the Associated Press All-America second team and the D3football.com All-America fourth team.

Muhlenberg finished the 2023 season with a 10-1 record, reaching double digits in wins for the sixth time in program history. The Mules earned a postseason berth for the 19th time in the last 23 seasons and won a postseason game for the sixth consecutive season. They were ranked 17th in the final AFCA Division III poll of the regular season.
