What are we doing here What am I doing here These are basic existential questions. They apply simultaneously to your existence on earth and your experience of college. Any answers you may find will only be provisional, if only because your "here" your situation changes. The course will take up all three themes suggested by our guiding question: meaning, acting, and situation. That these can be serious questions at all is a relatively recent phenomenon, less than 200 years old. Modern societies are relatively fluid compared to traditional ones. This could mean more "opportunity," it could also mean more choices, more anxiety, more alienation and uncertainty. We will read Shakespeare's great and enigmati
