Women's Soccer Comes Back on Senior Day

A spirited comeback by the Muhlenberg women's soccer team on Senior Day was spoiled by a late goal in a 3-2 loss to Washington College.

A spirited comeback by the Muhlenberg women's soccer team on Senior Day was spoiled by a late goal in a 3-2 loss to Washington College.

Prior to the game, the Mules honored their 14 seniors: Regina Russo, Kate Johnson, Emily Meenan, Paige Addis, Lexi Sipos, Izzy Stokes, Abby Adams, Savannah Rode, Lucy Atwood, Casie Burke, Olivia Oberman, Bri Astbury, Alysa Akins and Meredith Raab (pictured above, left to right).

Russo, Sipos and Akins, who are injured, started the game and were removed shortly after the opening whistle. Not long after that, the Shorewomen scored a goal, and they added another one soon after that to take a 2-0 lead just four minutes into the game.

Muhlenberg held the line there, though, despite a 10-1 deficit in shots in the first half. The tide turned at the start of the second half, and Burke cut the deficit in half when she scored her third career goal just 4:20 after the intermission.

The Mules nearly tied the game in the 61st minute when Astbury hit the crossbar. Astbury dinged one off the crossbar again in the 84th minute, but this time Addis was there to put in the rebound and tie the score.

Washington had the last word, however, putting in the final goal with 2:51 left to play.
