Women's Lacrosse Ties Scoring Record
The Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team tied a long-standing school record for goals in a 24-12 win against Kean.
The Mules (6-0) first scored 24 goals in a game in 1987, and that total had been matched only once (in 2003) in the 37 years since. After defeating Drew, 22-14, earlier in the season, the 2024 squad now has two of the top five single-game goal marks in program history.
As she did in the Drew game, senior Nicole Steiner scored 8 goals, becoming only the second Muhlenberg player to record two 8-goal games in the same season. Sophomore Ava Milia and freshman Emma Youngling netted 4 goals apiece, while senior Lily Seifert and junior Jillian Kubikowski each contributed to the scoring surge with 2 goals and 2 assists.
Kean (3-4) netted the first goal of the game, but a goal from Milia off a pass from junior Emily Vaughan tied the score just 15 seconds later. It was 2-2 before the Mules went on an 8-0 run that extended into the second quarter, holding the Cougars without a goal for a span of almost 18 minutes. Seven different players scored the eight goals, with Steiner netting two, including the first of her four second-quarter tallies.
It was 13-7 at halftime and 17-8 late in the third quarter before the Cougars put in three straight goals to stay within striking distance. Muhlenberg finally put the game out of reach with six goals in the fourth quarter, the first three by Steiner and the next three by Youngling, with sophomore Annalisa Bio assisting on the final two.
Vaughan (pictured above) reeled in 6 draw controls to go along with her 4 caused turnovers, goal and 3 assists. Junior Ellison Ervin made 12 saves in goal.
The Mules are off to a 6-0 start for the third consecutive season.
