Sophomores Lead Track and Field
The Muhlenberg track and field teams spent the weekend in the Philadelphia area competing in the Widener Winter Evening Invite.
The throwing events took place at Widener on Saturday afternoon, while the other events were contested at the University of Pennsylvania.
Sophomore David Seel led the Mule contingent by winning the 800 meters, topping a large field of 46 runners. He finished in 1:55.80, improving his indoor personal best by more than two minutes and climbing from 10th to ninth on the all-time performance list. Seel has now won three different races in the first three meets of the indoor season, taking the 1000 at Fast Times Before Finals, the mile at the Moravian Indoor Meet and now the 800.
Sophomore Christopher Short made a big move on the all-time performance list, running the 200 meters in 22.97, the fastest clocking by a Muhlenberg runner since 2013. He jumped from 10th to third on the performance list.
Sophomore Maxwell Broadbent finished seventh in the triple jump at 45-4½, topping the school record entering the season for the second straight week.
The top performer for the women was sophomore Maya Richwine, who placed third in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.16 seconds, the second-best time in the Centennial Conference so far this season. She also ran the 200 in 26.83, not far off her indoor PR of 26.65.
A host of Muhlenberg athletes showed improvement from the previous week's meet at Lehigh, including senior Ellen Maguire (pictured above left), who ran nearly six seconds faster in the 800, and freshman Dami Shote (pictured above right), who was one of three Mule men to PR in the shot put, improving by more than 2 feet.
