Women's Soccer Comes Back for First Win

Two players combined for both of the goals as the Muhlenberg women's soccer team came from behind to defeat FDU-Florham, 2-1, for its first win of the season.

The Mules fell behind 1-0 just 11:49 into the game but found the equalizer in short order, with sophomore Ivy Dias streaking past two Devil defenders to run onto a nifty pass from junior Anna May, then beating the goalie to the ball and ushering into the open net less than five minutes later. The sequence began with a long punt from sophomore goalie Megan Stairs.

Outshot 9-3 in the first half, Muhlenberg came out strong after the break, taking three shots in the first 10 minutes. The persistence paid off midway through the period with another quick-strike goal.

After the Mules were whistled for being offside, they won the ensuing free kick. Freshman Sydney McManus played a long ball down the field to Dias, who passed up ahead to May, who had to jostle with an FDU player for possession of the ball. She won it and buried her shot inside the far post for her first goal of the season.

Stairs (pictured above) made three of her six saves in the remaining time to preserve the lead and earn her first career win as a goalie.
