The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team threw a scare into eighth-ranked Rensselaer before falling, 11-9.

Neither team led by more than two goals at any point in the game, which was tied 9-9 in the fourth quarter before the Engineers (5-0), who defeated their first four opponents by an average of almost nine goals, netted the final two.

Freshman Chase Kusko recorded his second straight hat trick, while freshman Jack Bill and junior Tyler Kitchen netted a pair of goals apiece. Freshman Daniel Friedel scored a goal and notched the first 3 assists of his career.

The Mules (1-4) came from behind three times in the first half to draw even at 5-5. RPI scored the last goal of the first half and a minute into the second half to open up a 7-5 lead, but Friedel and Bill combined for back-to-back goals to bring the game to a draw again.

Muhlenberg came back to tie twice more in the half but did not have an answer after RPI went ahead 10-9 with 11:38 to play.

Senior Stephen Krug made a career-high 12 saves, while junior Brendan Lavarra forced 5 turnovers for the second time this season, becoming only the second player in program history to cause at least 5 turnovers twice in the same season.
