More Tough Competition for Men's Lax

The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse played a strong middle at 14th-ranked Union, but the beginning and end did not go as well in a 17-7 loss.

The Mules (1-5) trailed 6-1 with 2:23 left in the first half before reeling off three goals in a span of less than two minutes to close to within two.

Muhlenberg and Union traded goals for most of the third quarter; three times the Garnet Chargers (5-0) scored to extend their advantage to three, and all three times the Mules answered to cut the gap back to two.

It was 9-7 before Union scored with 4:34 left in the third, and Muhlenberg had no answer for the rest of the game, with the Chargers - who advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals last year - ending on an 8-0 run to make the final score not quite indicative of how the game was played for the majority of the time.

Three of the Mules' five losses are to teams ranked in the top 20 in this week's USILA Division III poll.

Six different players scored goals for Muhlenberg, with senior Wyatt Malia netting a pair to become the 10th Mule with 75 career goals.

Sophomore Luke Schwartzberg scored his first career goal in the third quarter, picking up the ground ball off a faceoff and going straight to goal. He finished with 3 ground balls, as did senior preseason All-American Matthew Regan, who was making his season debut.

Senior Aidan Murphy led Muhlenberg with 5 ground balls, while senior Stephen Krug tied the career high he set in the Mules' last game with 12 saves.
